  • Do you unload a box of cigars into the humidor

    I'm curious.

Do you unload a box full of cigars into your humidor, or put the whole box in there with the cigars in it?
    Advantages / disadvantages ?

I have been buying singles so far, but now have some boxes too.

I think most would put the box in the humi, depends on your set-up.

It really depends on the size of your humidor. If you have a cabinet sized one with enough space, you might as well put them in boxed, keeps things organized. But anything smaller, it's more practical to put them in as singles.

        In a Box!

Box in.....in box, always! Can't think of a better way to store and age your fine puros.

Along these lines, let me refer you to another post by one of our esteemed members
on another thread. I think you may find it useful in this discussion...maybe not.

        BB

Hey BB! I store my blu-balls in their original box. It helps me keep track of the date.

          Whole box in?!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, if the box is the size of a cigarette packet!!!!

I have to take them out coz my humi only fits 100 or so...

Anyway, i tend to open my humi everyday, inspect the goodies, take a big whiff and spend half and hour deciding which one to smoke

            Exactly!

As i said, the only case in which your humidor is big enough to fit your entire collection of smokes in their boxes, is if you're experienced enough a cigar smoker to already know the answer to this question...

If you have 25 sticks then you might put them all in the humi. If you have 25 boxes then probably not.

...And if you have 25 boxes, you probably are not reading this post!

Haha! Exactly, because the only box el Pero owns is a LITTER BOX!

Lucky enough to have a large cabinet humi, so always in the box.

                    Thanks folks.
In the boxes it is then. Into the new cabinet that I made, which will take them.
(As long as I don't buy too many more boxes!)
I'll keep my singles in the smaller table top humidor.

                    Cheers

In the box, I always felt that the box being made of Cedar will hold some of the cigars own flavours and stop flavour swap to some degree (not that I think this is a huge issue).

Plus, it looks so god damn good, you can see all that aged goodness looking back at you.

However in a shop I like lots of singles so I can try to spot something i've never seen before.

Sorry if youve already posted it elsewhere Rod, but if not...any chance of seeing some pics of the cabinet you have made? Always love some hand crafted items!

Not totally hand crafted. I modified an old mahogany display case, and lined it with cedar.

I am using it laid flat on its back.

Ah very nice cabinet! Good job! Its a pretty unique styled display case, where did you get it from if you dont mind me asking?

How was/is the seal on it? Was it OK for the use of a humi, or did you have to do anything to the seal?

Looks great though, have fun filling that up hehe!

Very nice modification of what would be a discarded piece of furniture. I think it looks way cooler standing up though.
