Strength Buzz

Hi all. Had an Oliva Serie V Belicoso earlier (review in relevant section) and had a real strength buzz from it which was almost unbearable, I felt light headed and sick from it for almost 2 hours afterwards.

I felt a bit silly as I smoked the same cigar with L-Dog (great guy by the way) from the forum and it had no effect on him at all.

Do any of you get this or is it just because I haven't been smoking for long? Or is there anything I can do to help?

Any advice would be appreciated

A glass of water and spoon of honey should do the trick. Had you eaten before hand?

Only when I smoke an under-aged stick (less than one year old, aka, the "sick period" )

I had eaten yes, I don't know if it had been aged at all as it was a generous gift from L-Dog (great guy by the way). Maybe I will buy one and let it sit

Having had this very cigar on Thursday, i will say that it didn't make me feel sick, but did cause me to lose my appetite for it. Like when you eat too many Skittles

Empty stomach?
Full stomach?
Smoked it too quickly/aggressively?

These are some of the things that can cause a feeling of sickness after stronger or larger cigars.

Odd comparison but I know what you meant with the Skittles, the sour ones are especially bad

-Does the Fonz- Hope I didn't poison you James! I did get told that they age NC's for 2-5 years before they sell them but I'm not convinced.

It's not your fault Luke, I will definitely get another and let it sit for a while myself because the flavour was great!!

Depends what you drank with it too, coffee/coke wouldn't help with the added caffeine I suspect...

The last time I got a strength buzz was when I had a cider too. What drink do you suggest??

Beer or straight bourbon for me personally (if anything at all), but scotch is a popular one. Some go for brandy too.

Btw, where did the term 'strength buzz' come from?

I believe that stick is made with 'triple legero' which would explain a very high nicotine content.

Actually, I have a can of full fat Coke in the fridge on standby if I suspect a stick might be quite strong. I think the sugar helps cancel out the buzz.
