  • Do you smoke more cigars when you've bought a box?

For many years I have just bought single cigars, maybe two if I liked them. I was never a cigarette smoker and a cigar was something special and a relatively rarely enjoyed pleasure.

The other point about having a humidor full of singles was that when I smoked one it was gone so often when I went to my humidor I would return empty handed an put off smoking that last cigar for another day.

Now I have bought my first box (Trinidad Reyes as you are asking) and as they had some good age on them, and I love them I have suddenly found that as there is always one more in the box I have ploughed through the first layer in about two weeks, which is way beyond my normal consumption unless I am in Havana.

So beware. Buying boxes can cost you much more in the long run!

    Converted.

LOL. You are preaching to the converted Nic. I have a large collection of empty boxes lying around to prove your theory.

One of these days I will sit down and calculate exactly how many boxes I have and the financial implications.

I was just the same, having a 40 capacity humi for a few years so could only really fit a good mix of singles in. Took the plunge with a 300 capacity humidor and within a short period of time had a converted wine cooler to keep my growing box collection ......... only to find I am actually getting through the boxes at an alarming rate!

        I admire your restraint.

I'm a hopeless 'box junkie', if I try a cigar and like it... I've just GOT to source a box... otherwise I wake up in the night, sweating and shaking*... fearing I may never recapture that moment again.
(*OK, maybe that's a slight exaggeration... but you know what I mean).

The biggest downside (other than an ever growing collection of humi's) is that my tastes are migrating evermore towards the rare and obscure these days.

I daren't admit to how much time (and money) I've been spending lately trying to track down certain vitola and box codes.

        Oh God...
My name El Cat and I have a problem...
Oh well... I'm in good company in here!

A bit early days for me yet although I can confirm I have bought more boxes this year than I bought singles last year! I'm a creature of habit and when I find what I like I get a box, trouble is having done loadsa trades and stick a sticks etc I now like alot! Oh and couple the fact that my bank changed it's debit card from a local Irish one to a visa based one, way too easy for online buying ( I don't have/ want credit card as I'm way too irresponsible etc)

Buying boxes is definately the way to up your spending, once you find you have a really good box, is one enough? Coz just like a case of wine, by the time you get to drink it, you'll never find another from the same vintage, vineyard ect.
However my consumption hasn't gone up, in fact over the last two yrs it has decresed slightly. Think this is due to limited opportunities, especially for the larger smokes.
Having fishing & cigars as my hobby, is a finnacial liabilty, as you can definately spend far too much, way too easily on both, eg just spent 2k on a new boat & engine, that's two yrs of cigar budget gone & I haven't even got the boat wet yet.

                      Box Wothy!

Not sure I'm qualified to answer the "subject" question, as I only buy boxes. But here's what I do know:

In order to buy boxes, one must have a humidor that will accommodate such. And the more boxes one buys, the bigger the humidor. And the bigger the humidor, the more one enjoys one's fine puros - as if one will never run out of sticks
                      .

My two cents on this old, but worthy thread - BUMP!

This sounds like a quantum physics sort of thang...or a chicken and egg proposition...

Anyways, buy boxes...and more boxes...and enjoy the best cigars you can (IMHO)

An untouched, full box of cigars is a Schr?dinger's cat scenario to me. The box exists in two states: excellent or not. Whilst you haven't fired the first one up, the cigars exist in both states
