One of my ol' friends from college used to use potato skins to bring tobacco back to life. A student with a vegetable? Feed him to the lions I say!

Pipe smokers worlwide have always used carrot slices, orange peels, potatoe skin, etc. to prevent their tobacco to drying out.
A small piece of wet clay is safer, as it doesn't rot if you forget it!

When I had a baccy tin I put a used tea bag in there for a day or two to bring dried tobacco back to life, it worked well.

Orange peel was good too - less risk of mould which could have (but thankfully didn't) happen with the tea bag. I only used the baccy tin to get me through the last few days of the month in the lead up to pay day so it often got ignored for a few weeks at a time.

Cabbage leaves though? I'm not sure........I get slugs on my cabbages and don't want them getting near my smokes (hee, hee - added just in case anyone didn't get that was a joke. I keep my smokes upstairs and I know slugs can't climb stairs, their legs are too short see?)
