  • Cigar Suggestions

Hey guys I am still relatively new to cigar smoking, I have bought a few samplers and am working my way through some different brands, shapes and sizes etc, I was wondering if any of you more experienced aficionado's can recommend me some of your favorites, I'm not cheap but I don't want to spend ?20 on one stick to be honest. Some I have been looking at are Trinidad Reyes, Partagas Short, Punch Petit Coronations, RyJ No. 2, Partagas Serie D No. 4 and HdM Petit Robusto.

Any comments about any of my thoughts and/or any other suggestions for me would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards, James

I would go for a Punch Punch over a Petit Coronation anyday

Also, try a RyJ No.1 as well as the No. 2.

i personally don't favour the preset samplers. They are the same price (if not more) as the cumulative price of the singles individually. First off, in my opinion it's best to just create your own sampler. It's all i have ever done.

Here's a list of cigars which aren't gonna break the bank, but i find to be simply pukka:

            La Rica Robusto
            3 X 3 Corona
            Fonseca KDT Cadetes
            Luis Martinez Tres Petit Corona
            Chinchalero Chico
            Charatan Demi Tasse

And on top of that, just buy a Partagas P2 anyway lol. Macanudo 1968 Coronas are awesome too, if you want something halfway up.

Of who are these the favorites? And the only cuban in your list (Fonseca) is one of the least representative of the Cuban terroir – in terms of depth of taste.
The idea behind the sampler is to get things that can be compared, and a basis for further discussions and questions…

I do agree with you small club, I just want some cigars which like you said are comparable, i.e the Corona Sampler I have been looking at, or the Robusto Sampler. Any personal recommendations from you Small club?

Mine, that's who's. He didn't ask for "the" favourites, he asked for ours. Just because you don't agree doesn't demean the fact that i like 'em. I consider myself an intermediate and certainly not an aficionado, but it was just my two cents. The focal point of this thread is price, and these are my suggestions.

I merely stated that the value for money is the same (or often even better) to choose your own samplers rather than to choose the preset ones. It doesn't mean you can't loosely base your customized sampler on them.

Some good suggestions Nightwingvyse, next time I buy something I'm going to try the Luis Martinez, already had one of the Chinchalero and was pleasantly surprised by it so may have to try the one you suggested, wasn't too fond on the La Rica Robusto but I didn't have a humidor at that point so may try one again at some point

Having just posted, i left out something i forgot to mention.

I received an aged bundle of Bolivar No.3's this morning, and finished the first one no more than twenty minutes ago. If you're after a cheap, tasty, and typically Cuban cigar, i strongly recommend these.
