Ok, so I'm on a wk off from work and thought I'd use the time to smoke a few more sticks than nornal. Typically I came down with a cold over the wk end so reststed smoking due to not being able to taste anything. Come mon I'm feeling abit better still abit bunged up but as the weather was so nice I couldn't help but smoke on of my olivia v. Now all I can say is that it tasted ............wrong (yes I know its a nc). This is some thing I remember experiancing back in the days when I smoked cigs it just tastes wrong! So I was just wondering if anyone else has found this and do you know why? Btw I am feeling ok today so currently smoking an oliva v and it tastes just like it should (great). Looking forward to hearing your thoughtsm. Dan

Colds Trump Puros!
Sir, I am not a brujo, I only pretend to be one on this forum.
So I don't know why it is that cigar smoking and colds do not mix. I do know that it's a true measure of having a cold....no desire to spark up a puro.

As a former cigarette smoker I 2nd what TJ said, I would have no desire what so ever to smoke. Colds generally affect your taste in every aspect, not just the Cigars. Your sense of smell plays a big part in taste believe it or not, food and drink will even taste bland. It takes a lot to put me off of my food, but a cold normally does it.

How interesting to see this discussion going on here, since I was just about to initiate a similar thread at one of the Swedish cigar forums that I follow.
Especially since I have opposite experiences: I actually feel better after a cigar! (I don't inhale, just taste the smoke in mouth.) I'm having a cold right now and have tried both ideas: no cigar some evenings and 1 cigar some other evenings. And I have found out that I felt much better the day after the cigar-evening!
But I don't touch the havanas or the nicaraguans, only milder smokes like dominicans or europeans.
Any ideas?

Whether it is a cold, or any other form of under the weatherness...I dont smoke. Part of cigar smoking for me is the ultimate relaxation that one can obtain. There isnt a chance in hell that that could happen when not feeling 100%, so I stay away from it. Its a shame, as usually the day before I get ill, Im always super excited about a smoke in some shape or form!

A cold is an infection of the upper respiratory tract. Therefore anyting to aggravate it wouldn't register as a good idea in my book. Also a cold damages the ciliated epithelial cells if the trachea therefore you won't be able to clear the crap out of your lungs (even if you don't inhale some crap will get there).
Personally I'd let the body recover before adding more problems to an already damaged area.
I may be wrong on this (not enough time to look it up properly), but stress hormones compromise the immune system and one of the effects of nicotine is to release adreneline which is a stress hormone. Not too sure if there i any clinical evidence of a significance though. The new charity auction: http://www.ukcigarforums.com/showthr...lighter-raffle

What Eddie said. I can't smoke feeling all bunged up, especially cigarettes as it makes your cough worse and tastes like crap. Plus colds mess with your appetite and taste buds so it's pretty pointless to waste a stogie that you can not even taste lol!
