New to Cigar smoking!

Hey everyone and thanks for having me on the forum. Although its my first post I don't want to seem like the kind of person to rock up, take all your info and leave so I thought i'd join and ask your opinions and hopefully become part of the community.

In the past I have only smoked cheap cigars (if you can really call them that) from super markets.

I dont have a humi but heres a few cigars I am looking to order soon for my general enjoyment and kicking it off.

In all fairness the minatures and Chinchalero Chicos are just there to keep me busy inbetween good smokes. And to give to a friend if they require one.

I will be planning on buying a humi with upto a ?50 budget and also first stash of cigars with upto the same budget!

Chinchaleros are very underrated in my opinion. I like them for the price, it couldn't hurt for you to get one of those anyway. The Henri Wintermans however are pre-cut, machine-made, and Dutch; Three things you don't want from a cigar.

I really don't like H. Upmann, but that's just my taste. Something like the gift pack you're looking at is a great idea, but i think there are better value ones on the site.

Also, although the use of cigar matches is one of the best options for cigar lighting, it can take a little experience to make sure you get a good, even light. A better option for a beginner is to get a clean-burning butane lighter.

The first cigar i ever tried was a La Rica Tubitas, and that was a good one to get me started onto cigars. It might be good to try one of those too, they're quite cheap. I don't smoke regularly, more of a weekly thing when i fancy one, but i also find La Rica cigars to be greatly underrated too, especially the Robusto.

welcome to the forums, there's no silly questions here so just ask away and get stuck in with the discussions, just don't use your second post to try and sell cigars your mum brought back from Cuba.One other piece of advice, buy a humidor bigger than you need because sooner rather than later you will need it!

I've actually got a little extra to add. I bought my humidor for about ?50 and it's a great one. It can hold at least 50 cigars (even with the extra wood i've put in it for sections), has an external hygrometer (even though i use a Western Caliber III) and has a glass top, so you can view your cigars without messing with the micro-climate inside by opening it.

I bought it from this Business Ebay seller in Germany, they sell awesome humidors IMO:

Do you know of any cigar shops in the Leicester or Leicestershire area?

I've actually got a little extra to add. I bought my humidor for about ?50 and it's a great one. Considering i've not got much to spend on cigars, I don't think ill have more than 15 cigars at most at any one time in the humidor.

The only place is a newsagent near the Grand Hotel but they just sell tubos from a small counter cabinet, quite overpriced too.

I once thought that, but even being a relatively infrequent smoker, my humidor is packed almost full due to some Partagas P2's that i'm ageing and although i'm not getting another one any time soon, i may need to sometime. You'll be surprised what you'll end up doing with them lol.

It's really weird, the Ebay one you linked is the exact one i got. i don't know about the others, but that is a goodun'! Of the three that you listed i would get that one, as it's the best value and the most practical with the glass top; Humidors are pricey in this country for some reason (maybe cause everything is). When i bought this one, i got rid of that awful humidifying flower foam stuff and the humidifiers that held them (they leaked a little) and got some cheap but really awesome round ones which i put acrylpolymer crystals in, and velcro'd them to the top.

The humidifer isn't the exact one i bought, as i can't find it, but that's more or less it.

It looks like i work on commission for this business or something lmao, but seriously, even though it is from another country i can vouch for this seller.

But that's a good thing. It lets them age if you manage and organize which ones you bought when. I have been intentionally buying them at a faster rate than i am smoking them to make sure that the best ones get at least a few months hard time before it's their turn.

Oh don't get me wrong, I wasn't putting it as a downside, it's why I have some cigars at the 10+ years mark, but it's also why over the last half dozen years I've gone from a half full 50 count to a full 300+ count 7 drawer cabinet and a full 50 count desktop! (not that I'm complaining )

The sponge is an ok temporary solution but like someone pointed out to me, they can be a catalyst for mould so while I do have some in my desktop humi currently I end up replacing it regularly as firstly it can get mouldy and secondly after the first fill they start losing their absorbency so hold less solution and after a couple more fills they can become much less useful. Don't think this is always the case, but definitely happens with that flower growing sponge stuff.

If you do use one, hopefully temporarily, definitely use the solution for humidifiers as it both encourages the right sort of humidity and has an anti-fungal action as well.
