  • Cheap 'everyday' cigars?

For those of you who have a 'cheap smoke' that you enjoy regularly while being able to afford to build a collection of better smokes, what is your smoke of choice.

Before I got into Cuban cigars, I used to smoke lots of bundled cigars from the US, while getting 5 packs here and there of the more premium NC's.

I remember back then I used to enjoy the Flor de Oliva bundled cigars (natural), which I'd smoke through the week, while smoking my better cigars at the weekend. I'm considering going back to bundled NC's as 'go-to' cigars to smoke while buying the Cuban cigars I like as and when I can afford, but not sure I'd be able to enjoy them like I used to.

Anyway, anyone here smoke bundled NC's (don't mean to insult you guys haha)? Would you rather smoke the cheaper Cuban brands, such as JLP, Quintero?

What is your cheapo of choice?

I do smoke Jose L Piedra's as an everyday smoke.

For the NCs El Ray Del Mundos I really liked ( the tissue wrapped Robustos) and also the La Estrella Cubana was a great smoke.

Any of the Olivas are good and the pricing is great inside the USA, outside they appear to be the same cost as Cuban counterparts.

As a cheap every day I really enjoy the Por Larra?aga Panatelas. Short filler hand made and share a lot in common taste wise with the PC. I've an 08 box which has really turned a corner and smoking brilliantly at the moment. Unfortunately, I'm down to my last four and need to get more, but whilst still in current production they seem to have slipped off the radar recently.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

          I'll add:
          Rafael Gonzales panatela extra
          Partagas Mille Fleurs
          JL Piedra petit cazadores
          Vegueros Seoanes

My favorites used to be vintage mecanizados (machine made, short filler) that you could find if you knew where to look, but sources seem to have dried up…

            Palat Burnout!

For many years we Coros were in search of the perfect so-called everyday stick (both Cubans and non-Cubans) that could be "enjoyed" while doing other things, such as mowing the lawn or shearing a llama!

But not long ago, we began to take another approach to this time-honored practice. I therefore submit for your consideration the following alternative to the "everyday" cigar that will not only save you mucho dinero, but improve your smoking enjoyment, as well.

(Hurumph!) Well said, don TJ. I've often posted that one should not waste one's valuable puro time on inferior sticks!

Have to agree with TJ on this, although I have many cheaper sticks in my stock (Gurkha Park avenue, Fonseca Delicias, Black Pearl Moradas - all bought for the express purpose of providing cheap regular smokage) I usually find that I crave the higher quality addtions to my humidor. Saying that the Fonseca are quite nice.

As someone who only smokes 2-3 per week I can normally go without anyway but if want a 'quick' smoke I normally go for a HDM petit robusto or JL Petit Corona - both of which I have plenty of and are very reasonably priced if you 'shop around' so to speak.

That was an interesting read TJCoro, thanks. Although, I'd love to be in a position where palate burn-out could be an issue haha.

I don't see my cigar smoking as a habit, I love the excitement I get for example when I know I'll be smoking a good cigar at the weekend. It's like a reward for working hard at the gym all week and eating a strict diet. But as a shift-worker (firefighter), I have a lot of time to myself through the day, that I like to spend relaxing and out with my dog. And sometimes I feel it would be nice to just grab a cigar that would be enjoyable, without worrying about the cost factor.

As for the PL panatelas...I smoked through a box of those a while back...and yes I remember loving them! I forgot all about them for some reason. Think these might be just what I'm after for a 'filler' cigar while trying to buy 3 packs or 5 packs of better cigars.

Exactly, muchacho! So why waste precious puro time on "cheap sticks?"
