  • Match Made In Heaven.

During my break from work yesterday, I decided to treat myself with a little something extra, so I popped into a drinks shop in Soho and picked up a bottle of Gosling's Black Seal 151 rum for a wee snifter after lunch today...
Now I'm not what you'd call a big drinker and stick mostly to coffee with my cigars, with the occasional rum dalliance happening now and then in the form of Havana Club.

I'd read on one of the post here what a good rum Gosling's 151 was so I thought I'd give it a shot (no pun intended) and pair it with one of the residents in my humidor this afternoon, in this case a Fuente Hemingway Short Story.

    The result...beautiful carnage.
Beautiful=I've just spent 45 minutes with an amazing cigar and a perfect partner for it. The blend of bitter/sweet coffee and light cedar from the Short Story and smooth sticky pudding sweetness of the rum has left me wanting more.
Carnage= That sticky pudding sweetness is carrying a cotton wool padded baseball bat and isn't afraid to use it. The knocking over of the ashtray and tripping over the cat because of the strength of the rum testify to this.

So forgive and ignorant newbie if this has been raised before, but I was wondering if anyone has had a similar pairing revelation? Cigar + drink = bliss. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
It's thanks to this forum that I put those two together, so here's to the start of a exciting journey.
I just hope the cat survives the trek...

It's something I've always been meaning to try out, normally I love an iced coffee with a cigar as I tend towards the sweeter, creamy flavours in cubans. I picked up some Havana Club 7 yesterday and that is sweet caramel and vanilla waves so I'm thinking about trying it with a Por Larranaga or maybe an Upmann #1, possibly something partagas.

What would pernod partner up with

As I've mentioned a few times on here, I'm a big fan of the SS, so this will definitely be an interesting combination to try out!
