  • Dog walking and cigars?

    Hi folks.

Just interested, does anyone here enjoy smoking a cigar while walking their dog? I have a Labrador that I take walking for at least an hour every day. Sometimes, this is a leisurely stroll around the park, and I occasionally like to have a cigar while doing this.

I don't like 'wasting' good cigars for this, as I find that I can't fully appreciate a cigar unless i'm sat still with absolutely no wind. I've tried a few of the JLP and Rafael Gonzales vitolas, but they just don't do it for me. So looking for something a little better tasting, but still inexpensive.

So what do you guys like to smoke while dog-walking (or just out and about)? Any recommendations?

So far I'm thinking either Fonseca KDT cadetes, or Partagas Mille Fleurs. Anybody got much experience with these 2?

Interested in responses here also, I did try to smoke whilst walking my 2 but gave it up as a bad job wasn't sure if it was down to my head just not in the right place so would like to give it another go

Looking for Monte Sublimes if you have any?

as daft as it sounds, it's not something i can do!!! cigars are a tasty treat for me........ i wouldn't go walking a dog and eating chips or a curry at the same time!!! i generally like to be sitting, relaxing, when i smoking a cigar!!! when i go walking my dog, it's all about getting her exercise and trying to tire her out!!! not so i can smoke a cigar.......

      just my thought!!!!

i still like this guy's take on things!!! like him, i tend to make time in the day (generally the evening) to smoke a cigar!!! i make sure i have nothing to do but relax and clear my head from any stresses!!! i like to be able to concentrate on the flavours and aromas....... i wouldn't be able to do that if i was walking the dog!!! this falls into what i reckon this guys calls 'oblivious smokers'!!! however, if you do want to smoke a cigar when dog walking, what about cohiba clubs? they last around 20 minutes and cost like, a quid each (well, ?10 for 10)!!!

I absolutely love walking my golden labrador with a good cigar on the go. The weather conditions have to be right, of course.

I'm lucky to have a dog route which is part countryside and which includes a tarmac footpath along the beach near my house. I can see France from that path. France is another love of my life.

I like to boot up, put a Stetson on, light up a robusto (or something lengthier) and set off with my dog. I do some of my most constructive thinking when I take my dog for a long walk. Really peaceful times!

I also like to kick back in a leather chair with a good whisky, but dog walks can be just as fine for cigar appreciation, I find.

Yeah, i find that the weather conditions have to be just right, because even the slightest breeze takes away the enjoyment for me. But on a nice dry, still day a cigar and a stroll through beautiful scenery can be very enjoyable.

I see what you're saying senor_robusto, I too like to smoke when I can sit and appreciate the flavours with nothing else going on, so if I could find a cigar that can be enjoyed, but without feeling like it's wasted on dog-waking I'd be happy. Would then be able to keep my better cigars for when I can fully enjoy.

I considered the Cohiba clubs, but looking or something hand made, and not keen on the JLP, RG etc.

Price-wise, the Partagas Mille Fleurs look appealing to me, as its very cheap for a box of 10. Anybody got any experience with this cigar? Or the Fonseca Kdt Cadette for that matter?

I've found that spicy sticks work best for dog walking, other subtle flavours escape me when walking and managed the pooch. Partagas Shorts and Quintero panatelas/brevas work for me

I too, wouldnt be able to do this. As ive mentioned a few times on here, I only smoke when I make time to smoke, and I know I can enjoy it. As Senor_R said, I like to be able to relax, study the cigar and be able to get rid of the stresses of the day and enjoy my own little world. This is why I also tend to smoke a lot more alone, than with others around me I guess.

Yes, I enjoy a cigar with my dog walking duties (a very daft and leggy staffy/collie cross), but the timing is everything - he has to have had his 2 poops first (normally within the forst 10 mins) as trying to pick up poop while smoking at the same time is not recommended, also it has to be something small and reasonably cheap!
