  • How do you light up?

I did a bit of searching, and I found a similar post, however, the last comment was a two and a half years ago, and therefore I thought it might be a good idea to start a new one, as those involved in the previous post may have changed their methods!

So...How do you light up? And what are your reasons behind this?

    Me:

I use matches. I have always like using matches, I like the fact they take a bit of time and a bit of effort. There is something about that, that helps me to start relaxing ahead of the smoke. I normally toast the foot first, before heading for a full light. This normally does the job without any hassle! Obviously this isn't ideal in some conditions (high winds outdoors), however I haven't found myself in one of these situations yet, so its yet to be a problem.

I only smoke outside so matches realistically aren't an option for me although I would love to use them. So it's a creme brule burner or a xikar crossover for me, zippo at a pinch.

I'm an outside smoker too so use either my nice Colibri jet (when it has some gas in it) or a cheapo ?3.99 ebay double jet to toast the foot. It'll then flip over to a soft flame to do the actual lighting.

90% butane jet, occasional matches and soft flame lighter.

1% using the 'rub two boy scouts together and wait for sparks' method

                    A butane jet lighter.
Toast the foot first, as it tends to help with an even start and then full light and then......

                    ENJOY.

I use a zippo case with a Z-Plus butane jet insert after recommendations on here. I rotate the cigar end above the flame to warm it up (is this toasting the foot?) then when it is warm I put it closer to the flame and draw. I find this makes sure that I get the whole diameter of the cigar lit nice and event.

Jet flame (torch) lighter. Even indoors, I find this gives the best results for me.

I only smoke outdoors so it's a butane torch (colibri) lighter for me 95% of the time.

I do like using the 3 match method when the wind is completely still, as DW says in the original post there is something enjoyable about taking a little extra time and effort to do the job 'manually' so to speak

monkey66 - if you could post a video of you rubbing two buy scouts together I would appreciate it, as this method of lighting appeals greatly....

With whatever comes to hand. Except Yankee Candles, I've learned that isn't a good idea!
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

St Dupont Minijet most times due to smoking outside 95% of the time, if indoors I have tried cedar splints which seem to work great
