  • Need a bit of advice please.

A friend of mine at work gave me a cigar today from his trip to Cuba 3 years ago. Its a H. Upmann Coronas minor tubos. When I checked, it felt ok albeit the band was a bit loose which leads me to think that it may have dried out a bit. I have introduced it to the Humi but was wondering, do I take it out of the tube or just take the cap off whilst in the humi to gradually rehydrate the poor fella?

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

If you've already opened it (which you have by what I read) then in my opinion the only course of action is to put it in the humi with the cap off or take it out of the tube if you think it's dried and leave it for a few weeks.

A cigar (even one in a tubo) left out of a humi for three years, will have lost much of its oils/flavour/aroma etc.

The short answer is... it's not worth bothering with (may the puro Gods strike me down). Toss it and smoke something worthwhile instead

OK.. Calm down... here's a longer answer.. it may (with time and love) be recoverable to the point it is smokable. But most likely will only ever be passable at best. Think cheapo NC (aren't they all?).
However, too much humidity all at once may well cause the wrapper to split. (Trust me.. I know)
Place it in a humidor 'CAP ON' for a few months to allow it to acclimatize gradually before removing the cap... and leave for.. what?... a year?

P.S. When you say a 'friend' gave it to you...? Come on... you bought it yourself and forgot about it didn't you?
It's OK, you're among BOTL.. we won't judge you. Come clean.
Confession is good for for the soul.

        Puro killer!

Why is it the novice smokers always go for the H. Upmann Coronas minor tubos???

I was given an old tubed cigar [a quintero] by a friend of mine that doesnt smoke [but didnt have the heart to throw away a gift] and it smelt of nothing and had gone very dry and pale.
I put it in my Humijar with lots of spanish cedar and my other cigars about 9 months ago, and smoked it recently...... and...... its was lovely!!!
So, I say its always worth a try, take it out of the tube [keep the cedar around it if its got some] and put it in the humi and let its age abit more.
              Just my 2 pence.

life's too short and there's far too many cigars, don't waste too much time trying to save them unless they are something really special. (Shit...I swear I used this line when I broke up with my last girlfriend!).

                  lol.
I havent tried to save a plugged cigar yet, but I would if it were a good one, the only 2 properly plug ones were a cheap nicaraguan b@stard and a cheap quintero.
Ive it were a really nice, limited edition though, I would be fashioning some sort of coat hanger de-plugger thingy me-bob!! lol.
