Ridiculous that a country without a government can make such a sweeping change to the law. We have a Professor of European politics who seems to be quite sure that Belgium won't last beyond 2012 as an entity...

Congrats to Germany for some sensible smoking laws. Why, oh why, can we not have cigar clubs or cigar bars? It's pretty bloody obvious then, to anyone entering the establishment (or applying for a job), what is happening inside. Informed decisions - let adults make adult choices...

Interesting that you should take a similar approach to me Simon, though I have been on the allotment waiting list in Plymouth for over two years now! Will be spending more time on the man-cave/shed than the plot, but hope to get some runner beans, potatoes, carrots and onions going (once I eventually get one!)

Good luck Simon, think I'll add onions to my list of crops. I gave my paperwork in & am not so patiently waiting for confirmation I can have my chosen (vacant) plot. As it's currently covered in weeds, I thought they'd be keen to get me in there for the sake of the neighbours.
He's a good example fo the sort of afternooon I won't be enjoying in the cafe & keeping ht elocal economy going, anymore. A Dippy No2, with snow on the Dippy.No2.2009.01.21_1058.jpgground & a freeze preventing a day's fishing, so retired to local cafe & read the papers.

Astroturf Si. It's really easy to grow and economical on lawnmowers!
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Why go for the expense of Astro Turf, when it's looking pretty green & well covered alreadyIMG_1602.jpg
The greenhouse & shed to the right would be mine.

Decent enough size their bud, veggies, herbs, poly tunnel for strawbs, greenhouse for tomatoes, peppers and grapes then a small water feature/ bird bath you can sit with your feet dipped in whilst enjoying a DC

They tried to impose a smoking ban in Greece almost a year a go...needless to say it has failed miserably, people just wouldn't put up with it.

On the other hand here in the UK it passed away no problem...what a "pleasure" it is having to freeze to death every time I want to smoke a cigar here in Aberdeen

Indeed! It's not just shelter required but heaters too. They had some at the Academy the first yr but the umbrellas didn't survive the first winter & I think the cost put them off replacing them. The Revolution bar had heaters on a timer so they went off every 5mins. This is much better as most ciggies smokes only nip out for a short period, easy for us to keep hitting the timmer to manage a decent cigar.

I'm sure we will manage despite the adversities....unless the weather goes completely berserk in usual Aberdeen style (side wind rain etc)...

The Academy is indeed a nice place for a smoke when its sunny!

Opening myself up to a flaming but I love the fact that pubs and restaurants are no smoking, in general, I just wish there was the option for somewhere to stay smoking, whether they need to add some filtration system, or prove they intend to make some of their income from smoking tobacco products or whatever...

I'm off to Spain in a couple of weeks. I'll let you know what it's like, smoke wise.
Last time I was there, a couple of years ago, people were smoking in bars and restaurants everywhere.

I agree with you, nothing worse than going to a pub or a restaurant with no proper ventilation system stinking of cigarettes . Quality Bars/restaurants though in countries where smoking is still allowed, have very good filtration systems and in most cases smoking from non smoking areas are totaly separated.

Why couldn't we have something similar here in the UK to keep everyone happy...
